I thought the tires looked comically huge on this when I saw it but this was 10mins after I woke up so I could of been seeing things as I was in a total daze.
So I thought I better take a picture and look it up once I wake up a little.
Sure enough these are monster truck tires. Stock size is 195/65R15 (24.98" diameter)and he was running 215/70R15 (26.85" Diameter).
1.87" bigger in diameter or 7.49% bigger.
I'm still trying to figure out why especially on a newer vehicle like this I wouldn't think it would of been due for new tires just yet. Which means they would of swapped in the bigger tires because that's what they wanted to do?

I wonder if anything rubs while driving.

I would imagine it probably rubs like crazy, that's almost a 2" jump in size. a half ton 4x4 truck starts rubbing when only going from stock 32" to bigger 33"

Were they winter tires? The extra sidewall and ride height is great for snow and potholes.

Nope goodyear assurance all seasons. normally when someone wants more side wall they downsize the wheel and keep the overall diameter somewhat the same. But a stock 195/65R15 has plenty of sidewall as it is(it has 5")

So the vehicle is pretty much crippled until smaller wheels are put on.

they were obviously driving it as I never saw it there before. they must be like "hey do you hear that?whats that rubbing sound?and why is there a huge cloud of smoke behind us?"

crazy is right. the $500 bucks spent for bigger tires would not be made up in fuel savings in the life of the tires.
Highly unlikely but possible. I've met crazier people.
